NLA Publishing welcomes submissions. Authors can make a submission based on the collection for consideration by the NLA Publications Committee. Decisions about the annual publishing program are made with reference to the Publishing Guidelines.
If you are submitting a book you do so on the understanding that it may be sent out for appraisal to our advisory panels, our distributor and, for children's books, school library suppliers.
NLA Publishing produces over 20 publications a year based on the many subjects covered by the Library’s rich and diverse collections, including an award-winning range of children’s books and popular illustrated books.
Publications produced by the National Library of Australia contribute to our aims of nourishing the nation’s memory, of supporting the vitality of Australian culture and heritage, and of demonstrating a strong national focus in all of the Library’s services, products and programs.
Publications also affirm our role in supporting scholarship and other creative and intellectual activity within Australia. They selectively interpret the Library’s collections in order to contribute to an understanding of Australian history and culture; they promote knowledge and use of the Library’s resources; and they promote the richness and diversity of the Library’s collections.
We would like the Library’s collections to be widely used and disseminated, and we recognise that publishing material from, or related to, our collections, either electronically or in print, is an important way of achieving this goal.
